The Lord, My Keeper

I Lift My Eyes

I will lift up my eyes to the hills [of Jerusalem]— From where shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.  The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade on your right hand. Psalm 121: 1-2, 5 (AMP)

I Cried Out

At the beginning of the year, I had these big audacious goals for myself… but life happened and changed those plans quickly. I found myself sidelined with a back issue unlike anything I had ever experienced before. I could barely walk, stand, sit or even sleep. The pain was so intense that I often found myself in tears.

Early one morning, I was lying flat on my back in bed trying to find that sweet spot to subside the pain. Unable to find any relief, I quickly found myself crying out to God – not in my own words but by quoting this scripture; I lift my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from – it comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth….

The God of Shamar (Shahmar)

As I was quoting the pieces of the scripture I could remember, a thought raced through my mind, the God of Shamar.  At first, I had reservations. Who was this god or God? I had never heard of this before. I tried to dismiss it, but my curiosity got the best of me. So, I Googled it. My discovery revealed something very precious to my distressed soul. It was not the enemy emphasizing this thought in my mind, but the Holy Spirit speaking to my spirit – God compassionately responding to me during my health crisis.

God, my Keeper.

God, my Protector.

My God, who attends to me.

In verse 5, we read, the Lord is your Keeper – Shamar (שָׁמַר) is a Hebrew verb meaning to guard, keep, watch over, protect, or tend, often used to describe God’s active, loving protection over His people, acting as a divine watchman.

God heard my cry as I called out to Him that morning, and He so tenderly responded to me.  What a special God moment that I will forever cherish as a reminder that God indeed hears my cries. Throughout the coming weeks, I would witness God attending to my needs.

A hostile world! I called to God, to my God I cried out. From his palace he heard me call; my cry brought me right into his presence—a private audience! 2 Samuel 22:7 (MSG)

Are You in a Painful or Difficult Season

If you are in a season that is physically, emotionally, or spiritually painful – I want to remind you today, the Lord is your Keeper - lift your eyes and cry out to Him.

He will respond.

He will attend to you in your situation, faithfully, compassionately, and lovingly.
